Why the combined tally is paused
The former block added a small selection of reported incidents. Even with overlap checks, that selection could not represent every armed conflict. We have removed its numeric totals rather than present incomplete coverage as a worldwide measure. The news links below remain available, but their figures are not added together.
What a monthly view can offer
Our intended approach is one consistently defined dataset, grouped by event month and country. A future view should show the period covered, included event types and countries, retrieval date and revisions. The latest complete calendar month would lead; a partial month would be clearly separate. These are plans, not currently connected figures.
UCDP Candidate offers free global monthly event releases and is another option for this view. Candidate records are provisional, and an event can appear in adjacent releases when its date range spans months. A monthly display needs deduplication, explicit date-allocation rules and the dataset’s low, best and high estimates. UCDP downloads and citations ↗. No UCDP monthly totals have been imported into this site yet.
ACLED offers event data that can be grouped by month, with most regions updated weekly. Programmatic access requires an authenticated account. Display and reuse must fit the applicable access and licensing terms. We have not connected an ACLED dataset or published ACLED totals here.

Reported fatalities are not all war deaths
ACLED records event-level reported fatality estimates, which can change as evidence develops. Event data does not establish the full indirect toll from hunger, disease or disrupted care. Its event categories also differ from other conflict datasets. A figure for civilian-targeting events must not be labeled as every civilian death.
Read ACLED’s fatality methodology ↗. Country-specific UN reports can provide additional context, but differently defined estimates must remain separate. Social posts and news stories are leads to investigate, not additional deaths to add automatically.
Recent casualty reporting · separate source accounts
These dynamically collected reports may describe the same incident or repeat cumulative figures. Publication dates are not necessarily event dates. This is a source sample, not comprehensive conflict coverage or a verified fatality database.
